This is a complex disorder that includes a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with an individual's functioning at varying levels such as interpersonal, academic, and/or career development. ADHD symptoms can cause barriers socially, and significant impairment with the individual's ability to sustain healthy close relationships such as partnerships, marriages, parenting, and friendships. Break down in memory, organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively, and personal ability to achieve are some of the unique struggles identified in research and by real people. Interestingly, individuals' suffering with this disorder are highly intelligent however, may struggle with low self esteem and low self worth, depression, and anxiety subsequent to the barriers they face. Pharmachological intervention, individualized testing, self exploration of strengths and weaknesses, and short term therapy prove positive for individual success and recovery.
